Why Bamboo?

Posted by Monica Harper on

To begin maybe we should give you a brief background of what Bamboo Fabric is.

So bamboo fabric is a natural textile that is created from the pulp of bamboo grass. Now the Bamboo used to produce bamboo fabrics is not the same as the bamboo that is Panda food. Bamboo is easily replenished and does not require pesticides to grow, I know amazing right! Bamboo plant is deemed one of the most sustainable plants this is because it grows super fast and it does not require chemicals or irrigation, and it biodegrades faster than those oil-based synthetics.

Now for the fabric that we use, we use a blend with a base of bamboo rayon, which is made by dissolving pulp bamboo into its cellulose component and then it gets spun into viscose fibers. So our clothing that is made of bamboo rayon on average lasts longer and holds its shape even better than clothing made of simple bamboo fiber. This is great since we design clothing that we want to last a long time.

So here are some amazing advantages and the Why we use Bamboo Fabric!

  • Eco-friendly

Bamboo is truly amazing at protecting the planet’s resources. The grass takes only two years to mature and it doesn’t require any fertilizer or pesticides to grow. The bamboo used in clothing is produced in an eco-friendly process and will have at least an Oeko-Tex 100 certification. (If you want a blog post on Oeko-Tex 100 certification comment below)

  • Built in Temperature Control

Bamboo fabric, has amazing moisture wicking ability that will pull moisture away from the skin so that it can evaporate. This makes it great for both hot and cool climates, bamboo clothing is temperature regulating. This is ideal when it comes to baby and toddler clothing as it keeps your little ones cool in the summer and warm in the winter!

  • Chemical Free

When processing is complete, the bamboo fiber does not contain any harmful chemicals; this is as per the Oeko-Tex 100 standard.

  • Hypoallergenic

Bamboo Fabric clothing is naturally hypoallergenic, moisture absorbent and fast drying.

  • Texture

If you have felt our clothing you already know about this but bamboo fabric can feel like silk or very soft cotton.

  • Antibacterial & Odorless

Bamboo has antibacterial qualities, which are passed down to the bamboo fabric and it is even able to retain through multiple washings. It can also kill odor causing bacteria that live on human skin, making your little one and his or her clothing smell sweet.

  • UV Resistant

This eco fabric will also protect you from the sun with its UV resistant qualities. Now this is just the cherry on top, UV rays are something that can be a problem all year round so using bamboo fabric gives a little bit more protection.

I hope you all enjoyed this brief little textile lesson. Bamboo fabric has become one of our favorite fabrics to use and it is so great for making clothing for babies and toddlers that we can't imagine not having it in our fabric mix.
